Yokai Island - Boris Bacic

Rating : 3 stars Format : Kindle Unlimited ebook Challenge : None Spoilers : yes  4 friends get stuck on a deserted island which is rumoured to be haunted. Will they survive? This was hard for me to get through. I didn’t like any of the characters by the end of it and didn’t care that they all died. The twist was a surprise but it just made me dislike the brother even more. The ending felt a bit rushed. The ghost was not scary once she was described because it seemed almost comedic. I don’t know if this was the right urban legend to use.

Always Remember - Cathryn Grant

Rating : 4 stars  Format : Kindle Unlimited  Challenge : None  Spoilers : yes  A wife and husband deal with the consequences once his parents move in, starting with the horrible accident of the fathers death. Accident?  This book made me so angry. It’s told from three points of view, the mother in law, the husband and the wife but it’s mostly the wife’s point of view. I hated the mother in law, the husband was a clueless dolt and the wife was irritating. I hated them all at different parts of the book but it was still a really good book. I wanted to throw it, but in a good way. At the end the mother in law gets what she deserved and the husband and wife are back together and thriving. I would throw it if it wasn’t on my kindle just because it made me so mad.

Pull - Jaime Winn

Rating : 4 stars  Format : ARC ebook from NetGalley Challenge : none  Spoilers : sorta  Pull tells the story of two teens who are drawn to each other but is it good or is it bad?  I liked this book a lot although the whole time I was waiting for some religious nonsense to happen. It didn’t (yet?) but this is the first in a series. I’m interested to see what’s next for Mischa and Casey.  I felt for Mischa and what she was going through and I was so very happy with how it ended because I was worried for a bit there. Some shifty happenings are definitely going on so I’ll be looking out for the next book! I feel this was all just set up for the main happenings in the series.

Freaks - Brett Riley

Rating : 3 stars  Format : NetGalley audiobook Challenge : none  Spoilers : no I  got this from NetGalley in exchange for a review so thank you!   Freaks follows a group of friends who are bullied badly by 3 boys. They decide to do a ritual as a LARPing exercise and end up with powers. They also manage to bring in a being from another dimension who ends up wreaking havoc on their town.  This book was ok, I wanted to love it because the premise sounds awesome but it didnt quite live up to the promise. I absolutely hated Micah, which made it a bit hard to listen to because he was always there. The abilities they get are interesting, I especially liked the super senses and how they practiced their powers, it was a smart move. But the characters are a little flat and there’s nothing that happens which is really complex. It’s a pretty simple story and good for anyone who just wants to turn their brain off for some hours.  The narrator is very good! I liked her v...

If We Were Villains - M. L. Rio

Rating:  5 stars  Format : owned physical book Challenge : none  Spoilers : no  I loved this book. It was so well told and had good pacing. I cared about the characters and really enjoyed reading Oliver’s point of view. The ending was powerful and shocking. I do think a lot of the Shakespeare went over the top of my head as I’ve only read it at school and that was a long time ago. But I still enjoyed it very much.
